Colloquium "Presentation of the EU-FP7 Project - UrbanWater"

Abstract:

Improving the efficiency of water management in Europe was recognised by the EC as essential for overcoming the growing exposure of European countries to Water Scarcity and Droughts. The FP7 project UrbanWater (STREP No. 318602, 01/12/2012-31/05/2015) proposes a platform that will enable a better end-to-end water management in urban areas, accounting for 17% of freshwater consumption in the EU.The talk will in short present the objectives and main activities of UrbanWater in which University of Zagreb Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing (UNIZG-FER) participates as a partner. As the results methodology is still in the early stage of development, the talk will focus on UNIZG-FER major tasks -- water demand predition, characterisation of the indoor consumption and adaptive water pricing -- providing an overview of the planned R&D to be performed within the ACROSS centre to contribute to UrbanWater goals.

CV:

Mario Vašak holds a PhD in automatic control since 2007 and is an assistant professor at UNIZG-FER since 2010. His research interests are: model predictive control, estimation techniques, computational geometry and their application in complex systems. He published more than 50 papers in scientific journals and conference proceedings as well as patents proceedings, in the field of advanced control and estimation techniques.
