Abstract:

It is expected that in future social robots will be used to provide various services to persons in their daily environments. However, nowadays robots are still missing many of the abilities necessary for their introduction into populated spaces, such as the sensing and understanding of their surroundings, and knowledge on the persons' usual behavior in public spaces. This talk will discuss how we apply ambient sensors to overcome the issues faced by single robots as well as improve our understanding on the persons' behavior. In addition it will give an overview of our group's research on human-robot interaction in daily environments.

CV:
Dražen Brščić received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Zagreb, Croatia, in 2000 and 2004, respectively, and the Dr.Eng. degree in electrical engineering from The University of Tokyo, Japan in 2008. From 2008 to 2010 he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Technische Universität München, Germany. In 2011 he joined ATR Intelligent Robotics and Communication Laboratories in Kyoto, Japan, as research scientist. His research interests include person tracking, mobile robotics and human-robot interaction.
